BIA: Sad

Judith and I have been told officially that we are likely to be expelled from the BIA

We are distraught to lose regular contact with people we so admire respect and love. You have become a big part of our lives over the past six years. To witness the blossom of confidence and improved quality of life for some over this time has been a great joy for us.

Fortunately we will be able to continue some of our friendships and to continue tramping with those that want.

Our hopes for the future;
  • that good and caring staff like Menna and Diann will find a stable safe place
  • that the truth can be disclosed to all members and sponsors without shame
  • members are permitted meaningful sway over decisions that so affect their lives
  • members expectations can be raised appropriate to the resources intended for them
  • members have a place to be and call their own
  • that the power of love eventually overwhelms the love of power

Judith and Don

    Dear Don,

We write to you regarding our letter dated 12th December 2014 giving you written notification of our intent to discuss, at our next Committee Meeting held on 19th December 2014, your continued membership of the Brain Injury Association Nelson.

We refer you to the “Rules of the Brain Injury Association (Nelson) Inc”, specifically under

    Membership

The Committee discussed at great length their concerns on the impact on the Association, the Committee Members, the Staff and, more importantly, the disruption and continued distress of members attending the Support Groups that this situation, and your behaviour, continues to bring.

Specifically, the continued and malicious comments and insinuations regarding the Association; the blatant public attack via an online blog on the BIA Committee even when furnished with irrefutable facts; the continued under-mining of the BIA staff and disruption of the Support Groups is not the type of behaviour we wish to be associated with or continue to be subjected to from a BIA Member.

Regrettably, we feel there is no other option but to expel you with immediate effect as a member of Brain Injury Association (Nelson) Inc as per Membership (e) of the Rules of the Brain Injury Association (Nelson) Inc. A pro-rata amount of $3.62 in respect of membership already paid will be credited to your bank account. We will not support any future membership application from you.

You may appeal this decision at the next Annual General Meeting of the Brain Injury Association (Nelson) Inc. in 2015 or, if Committee Members agree, at a Special General Meeting.

We are mindful of the long standing contribution you have made to the BIA Nelson, and therefore find this course of action even more difficult and regrettable. However, the Association must move on with its endeavours, continue to advocate for its current and future members through strong Governance and decision making thereby securing the future as best as it is able.

    Yours sincerely,

    John Sauer
    Chair
    Brain Injury Association (Nelson) Inc
